Role Overview

Useful Arts is seeking a curious, story-driven writer to lead our blog and interview series. In this role, you will identify interesting creatives, conduct interviews, and craft articles that showcase how artists, designers, musicians, filmmakers, and other creatives are navigating AI and technology in their work.

This is ideal for someone who loves interviewing people, shaping narratives, and writing with purpose for a mission-driven creative and tech audience.

Key Responsibilities

​​

• Research and identify creatives (artists, designers, illustrators, filmmakers, musicians, etc.) whose work intersects with technology or AI
   

• Reach out to potential interviewees, schedule conversations, and prepare thoughtful questions
   

• Conduct interviews via email or video call and synthesize them into engaging Q&A pieces or narrative profiles
   

• Write, edit, and proofread blog posts for the Useful Arts website, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and a consistent voice
   

• Collaborate with the Useful Arts team on editorial themes that align with our CAUD initiative and educational programming
   

• Incorporate basic SEO best practices to help drive traffic and discovery
   

• Work with our web / social media volunteers to repurpose content for newsletters and social platforms
   

 

Qualifications

• Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills
   

• Comfort interviewing people and turning conversations into compelling, structured pieces
   

• Interest in creative fields and how technology and generative AI affect artists and their work
   

• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple stories in different stages
   

• Familiarity with blogging platforms (Wix, WordPress, or similar) is a plus but not required
   

 

Commitment & Benefits

• Approximately 5–8 hours per week
   

• Minimum 4–6 month commitment preferred
